Taraji P. Henson is getting candid about the pay inequity she faces when she returns to the big screen in one of this year's most anticipated films. The actor became emotional in a video that went online Wednesday after her recent conversation with King. She said she was tired of working so hard, being gracious at what she did, and being paid a fraction of the cost.
The actor said her profession required her to have a team of people supporting her. Big bills come with what we do. She was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of Queenie in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", starring Brad Pitt. She was nominated for an Oscar in 2016 for her work in the film "Hidden Figures."
In the movie, she is part of an all-star cast that also includes Barrino. She said that she is at the bottom of the glass ceiling when she breaks another glass ceiling. She asked for half a million dollars before signing on for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", only to get $150,000 for the role. She told The Hollywood Reporter that she had been fighting tooth and nail for adequate pay. Sometimes I get tired of fighting because I know what I do is bigger than me. She told the outlet that she knew that her legacy would affect someone coming up behind her. I don't want these Black girls to have the same fights that me and Viola had.
