The upcoming release of court documents about the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein are expected to be used by the right as evidence of wrongdoing by the Democrats despite a lack of concrete information about what they will show. Most of the names being made public have already been identified in court documents or news reports as having been associated with Mr. Epstein. A long time friend of powerful people, including politicians, business executives and royalty, Mr. Epstein was accused of preying on girls as young as 14 and paying them for sex. He died by suicide in jail in the year 2019, before he could be tried in Manhattan on sex-trafficking charges, but his associate was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of conspiring with him. The documents are related to a defamation lawsuit. A New York judge ruled in December that some of the names in the documents could be made public.
