The next Consumer Electronics Show will feature larger, foldier, more rollable displays.

TechnologyThe next Consumer Electronics Show will feature larger, foldier, more rollable displays.

It is possible to take advantage of the brief Sunday morning news lull before the rain starts on Monday. The company is teasing a new generation of products that can be folded inward and outward. The last bit is a reference to its flip phone form factor and a bid to distinguish the tech from a popular hamburger chain. We are in the proof of concept stage, but the company will give more details at tomorrow's presser. These devices are often dead ends, but it was a few years ago that the foldable phone craze kicked off, so strange things have happened. The company said in a release that in&out flip can provide a new alternative for consumers who prefer bar-shaped smartphones due to the thickness of foldable products. The front and back of the product can be used to create a new user experience.

The technology is trying to eliminate the need for a secondary screen on foldable devices. The device was tested in temperatures from -4 degrees to 140 degrees. The team dunked the screens in water, rubbed sand on them and bounced basketballs on their surface, which sounds like a pretty good time. The Rollable Flex has a sliding display, as well as the Flex hybrid, which has a built-in display. No word on when such products might hit the market, but I wouldn't expect to see an appearance at the upcoming event.
