TechnologyThe new mobile processors from Intel are for gaming laptops.

The new HX-series mobile processors will power some of the gaming laptops of the future, as Intel today announces its full 14th Gen mobile and desktop processor lineup. The 14th Gen variant are not the same as the new Core Ultra versions for laptops. The flagship Intel Core i9-14900HX will ship in more demanding gaming laptops, complete with 24 core, eight performance and 16 efficiency cores. The Core i7 variant has a higher core count than the desktop version. The 13th Gen Core i7 model has 12 efficiency cores, but the Core i7-14700HX has 20 efficiency cores. The latest against the competition is from Intel.

The Core i9-14900HX is the first mobile processor to feature a 3D V-Cache. The i9-14900HX beats the 7945HX in most of the tests it is subjected to, with the exception of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077. When we reviewed the 14th Gen desktop chips, we found they were largely a refresh in name and nature, with not enough performance to beat the best desktop gaming processor. We will have to wait for reviews to see how Intel handles mobile this year.

The Core i9-14900 is the flagship of the mainstream 14th Gen desktop CPUs from Intel. The base power of the 14th Gen desktop processors is 65 watt, with the Core i9 model drawing up to 219 watt.
