The survival and crafting game 'Pokémon with guns' shot up Steam's most played games list and sold millions of copies over the weekend. On January 19th, the game was available for early access on Steam, as well as on Xbox and Windows PC. The concurrent player count on Valve's platform was 1,299,000 at the same time as CD Projekt's Cyberpunk 2077. Counter-Strike 2 is currently the most-played game on Steam, but it is just the sixth game ever to hit one million concurrents. One of the steam records that goes along with this success is that of the most played Japanese-developed game on steam. The second most-played paid game ever on Steam is Palworld, which had a peak concurrent figure of 3,258,248 before the battle Royale went free-to-play.
Pocketpair said that Palworld had sold over five million in about three days. Insomniac's Spider-Man sold 3.3 million copies in its first three days of release, followed by Sony Santa Monica Studio's God of War and The Last of Us 2. The game has sold more quickly than the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive ever. IGN reported last week that some Pokémon fans were taking to social media to point out similarities between Palworld's Pals and the Pokémon themselves.
