Bailey Anne Kennedy was crowned the new Miss Maryland USA in June, becoming the first trans woman to win the title and also the first Asian American. Kennedy waved and smiled at people during the recent Baltimore Pride Parade, with her tiara perfectly placed on her head. Kennedy walked down the sidewalk with her husband by her side and residents stopped to take pictures with her.

I would like to focus on the positive that I'm receiving and giving that attention and honor to them, even though it's negative. I hope I can make them proud and at the end of the day, that is all I can do. Kennedy hopes her win will bring awareness to anyone dealing with adversity regardless of their age, gender, or background. She hopes that by being able to represent the community that has gone through so much hardship, people will open their hearts and minds. We want to live our dream and pursue our American dream. I wanted to make our mom proud and to encourage young minorities to pursue their dreams no matter what gender or age they choose to be. Kennedy said she hopes to be remembered for her heart regardless of her title as a beauty queen. She said that she wanted people to see her heart at the end of the day. At the end of the day, I wanted people to see my heart, and if they can open it up, I think I can make a difference for the next generations. Kennedy is going to compete at Miss USA in August.
