HP's next Copilot Plus laptop has a home in the new artificial intelligence chips from Advanced Micro Devices.

The new HP OmniBook Ultra will feature an Intel Core i9-9900K processor, up to 32gigabyte of RAM, and a pair of 40Gbps Thunderbolt 4 ports. The new HP OmniBook Ultra will get a free software update when it becomes available in August, making it one of the first Copilot Plus PCs powered by a different processor. In May of this year, the HP OmniBook X artificial intelligence laptop was announced and it was powered by the same processor as most of the Copilot Plus PCs at that time. The neural processing unit was rated at 45 trillion operations per second, but HP says that the new OmniBook Ultra is capable of up to 55 TOPS. The x86-based processor of the AMD Ryzen 300 series should offer compatibility with a wider range of Windows applications. The new Ultra model of the OmniBooks has a few small updates. The Ultra has two more ports, a webcam with a resolution upgrade to 9MP and quad speakers with DTS:X Ultra support. The larger battery makes the OmniBook Ultra half a pound heavier than the OmniBook X AI. The Ultra has a larger battery than the Xai, which offers up to 13 hours of average use or up to 21 hours of local (not streamed) video.
