'Babes' gives mothers their own gross-out comedy.

Two best friends are bound together by an almost hive-inducing intimacy in a sticky-sweet comedy. The movie directed by Pamela Adlon is a movie that hits you with a lot of mixed emotions, like a hug from a dirty toddler. Dawn and Eden maintain a close relationship that one might call admirable or suffocating. In the decades since their girlhoods in New York, Dawn married, earned a medical degree, moved to the Upper West Side and gave birth to her first child, while Eden has barely matured. A full-size popcorn machine and a fast-food-style soda machine are available at the fourth floor walk-up.
