Chef Naomi Pomeroy, who made Portland a dining destination, died.

The matriarch of Portland's fine dining scene, Naomi Pomeroy, passed away on Saturday near Corvallis, Ore., at the age of 69. Ms. Pomeroy and her husband were tubing on the river. A partly submerged branch caused their floats to hit and thrown them into the water. Strong currents prevented the rescuers from retrieving Ms. Pomeroy's body from the water.
