Hayao Miyazaki won an Oscar for his film "The Boy and The Heron".
After winning its second Oscar for Best Feature Animation for The Boy and The Heron, the Japanese studio didn't say what it would do next. Hayao Miyazaki, the founder of the film and the oldest director ever nominated in that category, won't rule out making another film, even if his next project is a short. A decade ago, one of animation's most respected and successful directors, Hayao Miyazaki, said that he would no longer make movies due to his age. After the latest win, producer Toshio Suzuki said that he regretted that he wouldn't make another film. After announcing in 2013 that he intended to retire from film, the legendary director started work on The Boy and the Heron. In the film's press notes, Miyazaki wrote, "There's nothing more pathetic than telling the world you'll retire because of your age, then making yet another comeback."
He thinks that the elderly person should prove that they are past their best by deluding them that they are still capable.
Suzuki said that he did not attend the studio event because Miyazaki celebrated his Oscar win in private.
Suzuki wondered if the Old Testament references in the film were the reason for it being chosen. The hand-drawn illustrations of Ghibli's animation were more effective than computer graphics in portraying the bird's transformation. The film was a low-key production, with little publicity, because it was 10 years in the making and released after Miyazaki was supposedly retired. Suzuki said that Miyazaki didn't want to look important.
