When I purchased the D3200, I re-ignited my passion for photography. I like low-light capabilities when it comes to kit and don't get drawn into the debate about which is better. I use the Nikon Z6 II, and it almost always has the Nikon 28-75mm f/2.8 lens on it, which produces crisp images. The best shots I have done have been achieved using the Rotolight NEO 3, its continuous LEDs allow me to be creative in the moment with access to millions of colors in an instant.
Didi sent out a casting call for a Hollywood-style shoot, something I had never seen before. I found a vintage nursing chair in a charity shop that I thought would work well in my home studio. Creative props can make a difference, but they don't need to be expensive. This is when a model is willing to trade their time for images when they want something specific to add to their portfolio. It's a good way to build up your own portfolio without spending a lot of money. It was shot during a professional workshop in an abandoned building. I try to find angles that will help my images stand out. This image helps to show how far I have come on this photographic journey. We were able to create a striking vibe by adding a purple smoke grenade and a wooded area. This image uses a simple one-light setup using a Rotolight NEO 3. I used the parking bay as a leading line and asked Angharad to crouch down so I could frame the photo from a low perspective.
Ask friends or family to stand in front of the camera. You can practice with different people and different lighting and you will become a better photographer. A portable frame with a cloth backdrop and a single flash will get you started. If you want to try out new equipment and meet other like-minded people, there are a lot of manufacturers who host photography walks or workshops.
