Mel B of the Spice Girls said she had to eat some "humble pie" when she moved back in with her mom after leaving her abusive marriage. She said she didn't realize she didn't have as much money as she thought. Mel B, also known as Scary Spice, filed for divorce and a restraining order against her husband. Mel B said that her marriage to Stephen was a ruse to cover up her own conduct. She was required to pay her ex- husband hundreds of thousands of dollars in a private settlement. Mel B had an interview with Stephen Belafonte who denied abuse.
"My mum was the kind of person that would say, 'Oh you've left him now, you're fine,' but that couldn't be further from the truth." Brown told the Mail on Sunday's event magazine that she lost her family, friends and self-respect during her marriage. She said in her memoir that she used cocaine and tried to kill herself in order to escape her relationship. After getting the keys to her new home, she noted that it had taken 5 years to be able to do it. She wrote that she wanted to share it with other survivors so they could trust and believe in her.
