More artists are leaving the show in solidarity with Palestine.

Arts and EntertainmentMore artists are leaving the show in solidarity with Palestine.

The piece is called "From Doro Wat to Sushi and Chicken Wings and Tings". Unravel: The Power and Politics of Textiles in Art, at the Barbican through May 26 has a large-scale trapunto painting by Abad that has been requested withdrawn. The removal of Abad's work comes after two quilts by Pettway were pulled from the gallery. They were joined by artists Yto Barrada, Cian Dayrit, Diedrick Brackens, and Mounira Al Solh. Art Jameel withdrew its loan of Abad's piece "From Doro Wat to sushi and chicken wings and tings" yesterday. Antonia Carver, the director of Art Jameel, told Hyperallergic that her understanding of the role of arts institutions includes raising awareness of situations such as the genocide in Gaza. The works by Pettway, Barrada, Dayrit, and Brackens have been taken down and replaced with signs. At the request of the artist Cian Dayrit, they will be removed from the Unravel at the Barbican Centre.

The chief executive officer of the Barbican told Hyperallergic that the center should have given enough time for planning and preparation after the artists withdrew.

The London Review of Books decided not to host the lecture series over the inclusion of the talk "The Shoah after Gaza", which argues that the Israeli government has weaponized the Holocaust. After initially claiming that the venue was unable to properly consider how to present the lecture, the Barbican issued another public statement last week stating that it was not able to get the necessary logistical arrangements in place. Leviste wants to know if a church was capable of providing that the Barbican was not.

Mounira Al Solh's "Paper Speakers" and Diedrick Brackens' "fire makes some dragons" are prior to the deinstallation.
