Congress is expected to approve a package of six spending bills later this week to fund half of the government through the fall. The Environmental Protection Agency, the Justice Department and veterans affairs would be funded under the legislation. Congress must pass funding for the rest of the year for the Pentagon and other programs by March 22 to avoid a lapse in funding for those programs. The 1,050-page bill is on track for passage this week. The funding levels adhere to the debt limit and spending deal negotiated last year by President Biden and the speaker at the time, Kevin McCarthy, keeping spending on domestic programs essentially flat while allowing military spending to increase slightly.
The Bipartisan Spending Bill is intended to prevent a partial shutdown.
