Kai Chavis, who is also the owner/ CEO of Slumber Skate Co. spoke about his experience at the New York fashion show when he first arrived. Chavis said that people assumed he was the owner because he looked so young.
Chavis didn't know he was going to dress the models until the day of the show. He said that the experience was priceless and that it motivated him to take his brand to the next level. It takes a lot of being unique and that's why it's a competitive industry. Chavis said that if you're the same as everyone else, you're not going to improve, you're not going to grow, and you're not going to get sales from it.
Chavis wants to change the negative narrative about skating communities for the better by getting more people into skateboarding. Chavis said that more skate parks will build a community. He says that his brand will host another free competition in the coming months.
