The Colorado Springs Police Department said Nicholas Jordan, a student at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, is suspected of two counts of first-degree murder. When the shooting happened, he was a student at the school, according to a university spokesman. The victims were identified by the department as Samuel Knopp, a student at the university, and Celie Montgomery Rain, who was not a student. The police were called to Crestone House after shots were fired. The city police took over the investigation after the university police requested assistance. The investigation shows that this is not a random attack against the school or other students at the university, but a case of friends getting together and having a disagreement. The university was closed over the weekend and classes were canceled Monday, but dozens of people participated in a memorial walk at the school. "As we mourn the loss of Samuel Knopp, my hope is that we will come together as a community, support one another and share in our grief," the Chancellor wrote in an email to students. "He was an accomplished guitar player and an extremely talented musician, and he was a senior studying music and a beloved member of the visual and performing arts department," she said. Montgomery was not a student, but she will be mourned by the campus community. According to the Scribe, a nursing student died after having a medical emergency at the rec center.
