Victoria Nuland is a veteran State Department official.

Victoria Nuland, the third-ranking official at the State Department and a determined advocate of tough policies toward Russia, will retire this month after more than 30 years of government service. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said that Ms. Nuland was leaving the post of under secretary for political affairs because of her passion for freedom, democracy and human rights. She was praised by Mr. Blinken for her work on Ukraine, which he said was indispensable to confronting Putin. Ms. Nuland was once deputy national security adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney and she was a Russia specialist.
