The sculpture will be added to the park area next summer. The artwork will be installed on the southeast corner of the University Avenue and Snelling Avenue intersection after the public park there is finished.
The role that art will play in the United Village development has been part of its planning from the beginning, according to the current Minnesota United owner. We feel that art can be an important part of communities and should be accessible, have wide appeal, and be an important part of the area. It was obvious that Andy's work would be a great addition to the community when we saw his sketches. The most prominent and visible location for it was clearly the one that the people in the community, Minnesotans from throughout the state, and visitors from everywhere could see.
The sculpture is being created by renowned Scottish artist Andy Scott, who has created several award-winning art installations around the world. Scott said in a statement that when he was first introduced to the project and the opportunity, his study of possibilities made it clear that there was one truly compelling possible route to take. The natural environment of Minnesota has helped define it and the people who have called it home throughout its history.
Populous designed the park where it will sit. The United Village development will include a unique all-abilities play area for children, a distinctive hotel, two pavilion restaurants, a mixed-use building and other public artwork. The MNUFC/Snelling Midway is a part of the project.
