The activists from the Last Generation climate movement are protesting the Italian government's failure to address climate issues that result in more frequent floods and landslides. Two protesters were taken in for questioning by the Italian military police after authorities cleared the room.

The paper was easily removed from the glass and the painting could be seen within 15 minutes. The latest in a string of masterpieces targeted by climate activists was a painting by Botticelli. The Associated Press contributed to the report.
