The Bruce Silverstein Gallery in New York City has an online exhibition featuring a retrospective of photographer Frank Paulin's work through the end of January. Frank Paulin: Fashion, Culture and The Golden Age features images that were shot on the streets of New York City during the 1950s. He served in the military during World War II and learned the style of documentary that is used today. He studied under renowned photographers to perfect the skills he used to document his time in World War II. The show captures New York City in a certain era. The collection includes street scenes that capture signs and candid images of people. The beauty of the work is the juxtaposition between the hustle and bustle of the city and the glamorous side he saw at night as he took a rare glimpse into a golden age that his camera and eye were able to capture. Scenes in Chicago, New Orleans, and Atlantic City were captured beautifully by Paulin. A couple in Chicago on Easter Sunday, a little girl on a carousel in New Orleans, and a waitress at a lunch counter are all captured in Paulin's candid, documentary style. Paulin's ability to capture elegance, style and culture and also present a snapshot of everyday life was well received. In 1957, he became the first artist to hold a solo exhibit at Limelight Gallery, the only gallery for art photography in New York City. The Milwaukee Art Museum, Museum of Modern Art, New York, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, and the Yale University Art Gallery are some of the places where Paulin's work has been exhibited.
