The Negative Aspects of Information Society

TechnologyThe Negative Aspects of Information Society

The continuous development of science has led to the advent of the information society. Furthermore, the advancement of information and communication technology has accelerated the information society, and many individuals have been able to easily access the internet through electronic devices.

Society, based on such development, has become able to easily access more information and utilize it in various fields. In addition, the information society has contributed to improving the quality of individual life.

Individuals, through the internet, have been able to acquire more information in a short time, and can conveniently carry out various tasks from banking transactions to job monitoring.

However, the advancement of information technology has brought not only positive effects but also negative results to society. This article aims to describe the negative aspects and impacts brought about by the information society.

Behind the aspect that individuals can acquire information faster and easier, there can be issues raised about the objectivity of information. That is, questions can be raised about the accuracy and transparency of information. The reasons for such questions are as follows.

First, there is a lot of information existing online, and in many cases, the source of this information is unclear.

Second, one of the characteristics of the internet is anonymity, so it is often difficult to judge whether the information was written by an expert.

Third, the influence of public opinion on the internet is enormous, so information can also be influenced by public opinion, and sometimes it may be difficult to maintain objectivity.

The acceleration of the information society has greatly influenced the development of social network services (SNS), which actively help form networks between individuals. Individuals using various functions within SNS have been able to communicate smoothly with individuals and institutions in other countries beyond their acquaintances.

Thus, the meaning and influence of SNS in modern society are increasing. However, there is a view that SNS has a negative element in that it can be used as a means for individuals to compare with others.

This is because there is a big gap between the ideal life reflected in SNS and the reality of the individual. In fact, there is a survey result that people addicted to SNS tend to feel more negative emotions, such as depression, than those who are not.

In addition, SNS addiction can lead to a decrease in concentration, which can negatively affect students’ studies. Furthermore, the dysfunction of the information society is that it can form a wrong perception about a particular event or value.

The ripple effect of information dissemination on the internet is high, and the speed of transmission is fast. Therefore, concepts that are contrary to existing facts or inciting can sometimes gain popular popularity in a short time.

Even if such a concept is difficult to apply to reality, if such a popular perception takes hold, there is a possibility that it can undermine existing facts. The problem is that such a phenomenon can have a negative impact on society and can lead to negative results.

If such factors are complexly grafted, it cannot be overlooked that losses can occur on a small scale in the community and on a large scale nationally.

In addition, incorrect delivery of information can cause conflicts between communities and nations, and this can have a negative impact on culture and economy worldwide.

The development of the internet and the formation of online communities have helped individuals to have more knowledge and indirect experience and have had several positive functions in society.

However, as can be seen above, behind the information society, there is also a negative impact given by information. Therefore, it is believed that individuals and society should consider the verification and validity of information based on a critical and active attitude.
